Take the "No bullying" pledge

Help stamp out bullying on our campus by taking the “no bullying” pledge.

Bullying is not cool. Bullies derive power and satisfaction by making others feel powerless, fearful and worthless. They do this through both subtle and aggressive acts of intimidation, humiliation, exclusion, and cruelty. If you think about it, bullying is a pretty pathetic way for someone to make him or herself feel important and superior.

If you’ve never given much thought to how you feel about bullying, then try thinking about it this way: How would you feel if you had a younger brother or sister, or someone else you really care about, who was being bullied relentlessly and made to feel worthless and fearful? Wouldn’t you want to step in and try to protect him or her? If you answered “yes”, then you are a rational person, capable of feeling empathy for the plight of others. Unfortunately, bullies are neither rational nor empathetic.

The purpose behind the “No bullying” pledge is to marshal the collective power of our student body to identify the bullies on our campus, and to begin isolating and shaming them into changing their destructive behavior. We need to send a message that bullying is uncool and unacceptable.

If you’re on board with ridding our campus of bullying, then you are encouraged to take the following “No bullying” pledge:

  • I pledge to be tolerant and accepting of my fellow students, even though their ethnicity, religion, gender, sexual preference, physical appearance, disabilities, style of dress, economic status, cultural customs, or social standing may be different from my own;
  • I pledge to take action when I see bullying occurring, either by intervening to stop it (only when it is safe to do so), or by using this website to file a confidential Bullying Report and identify the individual or individuals who are perpetrating the bullying; and
  • I pledge to raise the awareness of my friends and fellow students that bullying is a cruel, de-humanizing behavior which diminishes the dignity and self-worth of its victims, and which has no place on our campus or in society at large
